Operation Laker panic

Who could have ever imagined this....

The city of Los Angeles is buzzing in two different directions these days an it has absolutely nothing to do with racial tensions or political affiliations.  The turmoil that is the Los Angeles Lakers is a stark contrasts with whats going on with another LA team... The Clippers!!!!

Kobe and Dwight
Yes people this is where we are now- The Lakers, who have struggled all year to gain any type of momentum let along chemistry are being shown up by the little brother across town who all of a sudden has grown up and aren't scared of the Lakers or any other team in the NBA for that matter.  With all that being said, a percentage of Los Angelenos- specifically Lakers fans are in a state of panic.

The Lakers, with a 15-18 record are in a state of flux, no real answers, and a coach in MikeD'Antoni who seems to lack defensive intellect which is partly to blame for such a horrible start. Does the rumored Kobe-Dwight rift means that the Lakers, if not improved by the trade deadline, will explore potential trade possibilities for Howard? It's a question you have to ask yourself given that Howard will be a free agent after the season.

This team doesn't like each other, it shows- Something has to give at some point but what? Trades, rebuild, or come to the conclusion that there just not as good as they thought they could be. These are real questions for an aging team with a terrible payroll.

Time to panic.

Javale Mcgee's most embarrassing moments

I'm glad to see Denver Nuggets C Javale Mcgee make the attempt to improve his game with all time great and hall of fame legend Hakeem Olajuwon this summer, but the lingering question remains: What's up with your mental game son? Here are some past goofs by the NBA's resident weirdo.

Golden State Warriors Fans Disgusted with Owner

Warriors owner Joe Lacob (left),with Chris Mullin
last evening.
Golden State Warriors co-owner Joe Lacob found himself in a very uncomfortable position last evening.  During the jersey retirement of Chris Mullin, Lacob- while saying a few words to the fans about Mullin was booed at fever pitch.  Chris Mullin and another former Warrior great (Rick Barry) had to intervene on Lacob's behalf because of the non-stop noise.  All signs of the fans frustration points to the recent trade of SG Monta Ellis, with one fan screaming "We want Monta". Ellis had been the Warriors best player before being shipped off to the Milwaukee Bucks for C Andrew Bogut and G/F Stephen Jackson, who has since been moved to the San Antonio Spurs for SF Richard Jefferson.

Derek Fisher Agrees To Buyout

Derek Fisher
So I guess 5-Time NBA Champion Derek Fisher is the latest to join the NBA's  unemployment list,  The former Lakers PG who has been a staple in Staple's Center lore had his contract bought out by the Houston Rockets today.  Fisher was traded to the Rockets on March 15th for F/C Jordan Hill, who by all accounts was brought to the Lakers to help bolster the frontcourt and help the team as a whole get younger.  Once Fisher clears waivers on Wednesday, he will have the right to sign with any NBA team except for the Lakers.  The Miami Heat, San Antonio Spurs, and Oklahoma City Thunder are all rumored to be interested in the 16 year vets services.

David Stern Guilty As Charged

It's absolutely laughable to think about NBA Commissioner David Stern and his vetoing of the Chris Paul trade to the Los Angeles Lakers, It is even more hilarious to think the prize acquisition going back to the New Orleans Hornets in young star Eric Gordon may not be there long term.

David Stern
After not being able to come to an agreement on a contract extension by Wednesday's deadline, Gordon- Who will become a restricted free agent come July 1, may not end up in the Hornets plans at all.

So after the cancelled Chris Paul Lakers trade, Gordon failing to reach a contract agreement, Chris Kaman being on the Hornets trade block, an all the other speculative banter being tossed around, Chris Paul essentially was traded to the Los Angeles Clippers for an unprotected first round pick and Al-Farouq Aminu?  If this Eric Gordon situation indeed blows up, All fingers will be pointed at Stern and his inability to be genuine in his dealings in a free market.  I understand the NBA needs the Hornets to be viable for a potential buyer, I get that.  But the initial three way between the Rockets, Lakers, and Hornets benefited all parties more than the commissioner would have you believe.
(From Left) Al-Farouq Aminu, Eric Gordon, Chris Kaman

When we look back in history 10 years from now at blockbuster trades that transpired on Stern's clock, This trade- non trade-veto and again trade will be a severe black eye on his resume.  Business dealings among franchises should be just that.  Getting NBA approval on acquisitions is one thing, meddling in franchises affairs (especially when legit) is another- In this case, David Stern is guilty as charged.
